"Robin saved my dog's life through her training, for which we will be forever grateful. We had Springers who were sisters and had neglected to obedience train them. For 8 1/2 years, they were great. Suddenly, one began to attack the other unexpectedly. Vets and other trainers told us we would have to separate them permanently! I looked at Cesar Milan's site for trainers in Maine and NH and emailed our situation to all of them. Robin answered right away and began to work with our dogs and us. She insisted that we get thorough geriatric exams on both (we changed vets). Through the combination of Robin's hard work and expert guidance, our girls enjoyed 5 1/2 more years of loving friendship.
Our old ladies have passed and we have brought our new pup to Robin. Wouldn't go to anyone else! She cares about the dogs and trains the owners!
Although she is always learning, she has an innate talent and understanding of dogs that makes her special"
"Robin Rubin of Mannerly Mutts is the "Dog Whisperer" of York Maine!!!!
In short order Robin trained my dog Boone to sit, stay, down, come and heel. Then came "place" and staying in place for an extended period of time.
Two days a week Boone knows he is going to play!!!  He paces until we get in the car, then begins to whine when we turn down Mannerly Mutts' street because he is so excited to be going to play with his buddies. Best of all, he is so loved by Robin and Robert, they treat all the dogs as their own. In a day, Boone gets in personal training, lots of play time and receives an abundance of love from the Rubins. The dogs have a large in door play area as well as a large outside play area.
It's amazing to see As Robin trains one dog, the rest of the pack follow along.
Robin is so passionate about 'HER' dogs- how they are trained, cared for and loved is very important to her."

Introducing Our Maine Dog Training Facilities

Mannerly Mutts is not a kennel environment.   Our family room and four acres of land provide a very dog-friendly warm home atmosphere during their visit    Dogs are allowed on the couches in this room, if you wish that   Mannerly Mutts can also keep your dog off furniture if that has been a rule in your house (the dogs usually comply very well with this).   Mannerly Mutts owns four acres of land around the house which consists of two cleared acres and two wooded acres.   Our land provides great space for outside play, supervised walks, and a great training atmosphere.

Rest is important after play, exercise, or training. Mannerly Mutts has plenty of indoor and outdoor areas for dogs to take it easy when they are done at our Maine dog training facilities.

Mannerly Mutts offers daycare and boarding as a convenience to our previous dog training clients, who have continued to work with their dogs and maintain their dog's training.   We can also offer a day train service for those new clients interested in having us do the up front work so they can have a well behaved, trained and socialized dog.   If you are a new client or former training client  looking for a refresh the board & train (also known as a residency) program may be available for you.

Our Home is Your Dog's Home

In Home Dog Training
The left side of the house is where most of our daily indoor dog activities happen.   Above the garage is a 900 square foot room with vinyl dog friendly flooring and dog friendly furniture.   The house is located on four acres of land.   About two of it is cleared, and then we have two acres of wooded land.

Our boarding guests also have access to other bedrooms and the sun room to sleep in as well, if it is busy.

Large Family Room is for The Dogs

Home Environment for Dog Training
This is the family room (also shown above) where a lot of the inside play and lounging happens on and off the dog-friendly furniture.  If you prefer your dog not be on the furniture (and you have trained this already at home) we can keep your dog off the furniture.   However, if you have no problem with it, we have furniture that dogs are more than welcome to nap and play on.  The room also has a wooden back wall for indoor ball play during bad weather.   This room is heated during the winter and air conditioned in the summer.

The family room has a sheet vinyl floor.  This allows for fast and clean pickup of any accidents that occur.  Plus the floor can be thoroughly cleaned!

Farmers Porch Shaded Hang Out

Day Dog or Puppy Training
The farmers porch is a favorite cool hang out in the summer.   We have dog beds outside for comfort after a day of play outside.   We also refer to under the porch as the "canine club house".   Also a cool place to hang out on a hot summer afternoon or chasing canine friends under and through!

Unlike most day-cares or boarding places, our day-care and boarding clients have a minimum obedience skill set to keep everything harmonious and friendly.   This will also help maintain the training the owner has put into their dog.

Two Acres of Cleared Lawn

Outdoor Dog and Puppy Training Facilities
Our two acres of cleared lawn is all for the dogs.   This is a great place to play ball, Frisbee, and chase games.   We have a stone wall to the side which is surrounded by nice shade from the trees there.   This is also a place where the dogs hang out and chill after some active games are played.    Our land and house are located on a dead end road with very little traffic and interruptions during the day.

Dogs are also always supervised when outside.   There are rules when playing to keep everyone friendly and having fun (IE stay before I throw, and not being too pesky about taking something away from another dog).   Dogs who come here have (or will have) a minimum basic skill set, and this keeps the pack harmonious and happy.

Two Acres of Woods

Dog and Puppy Training Outdoor Facilities
Mannerly Mutts also owns two acres of woods.   The dogs love racing through the woods, and this is also where we play hide and seek games.

Be aware, during hunting season, your dogs should wear orange when they go outside.   There are actually no hunters that have any permission on our or the surrounding lands to hunt.   However, I do believe in safety first during this time.   You never know when there may be a poacher about.

Weather Does Not Stop Our Fun

Dog Training for Winter Adventures
Rain or Snow does not stop the fun at Mannerly Mutts.   Winter makes a wonderland out of our 4 acres total of front and back yard.   The frozen wet lands provides even more of a play area in the winter.

When thunder, wind storms and other severe weather appear; we will remain safely indoors, however.   Generally, Maine weather does not keep us in for the day.   As you can see, I have the gear to deal with cold or rain.

Convenient Facilities

Dog Training Fenced in Area
Off the mud room, which is downstairs from the family room, we have a penned in area for quick elimination during the day.   This is picked up each time after the canines use it.   Fresh mulch is replenished as needed.

This is especially convenient and safe for those dogs and puppies that have not been off leash trained.

Mudroom Downstairs for Dirty Paws and Muddy Dogs

Home Environment for Dog and Puppy Training
The mudroom is another place where elderly dogs (especially those that should not be climbing stairs, can be kept downstairs but still with the group.   Also the penned in area is right off here.   In the winter, these floors are have radiant heat.

The concrete floor is easy to thoroughly clean as well.   We have dog beds available for hanging out in the mudroom.
